Stuck In A Rut? Make A Change! Your Routine Could Be The Problem.

Hey there! It’s #ThoughtfulThursday and we’re bringing you a fresh perspective on an age old problem; getting stuck in a rut.

Recently I was having problems getting my creativity and productivity outside of my head. I had all the ideas and all the cool things to do. I just couldn’t execute. All my momentum was shot once I went to go do something.

I was at a loss. I couldn’t figure out what the heck was up since I’d finally gotten a good routine down.

That’s when it clicked. I “routined” myself into utter oblivion and now my brain was fighting back. In my effort to be productive and get things done, I threw out fun and variety.

This taught me a valuable lesson. Fun and variety is still necessary, even within a structured environment. It’s good for your mental health too.

My newest task: Adding more variety to my week in a structured manner.

Here’s what I’ve tried that’s worked so far:

  • New people: Having new conversation or background noise with people to “loosely” hold me accountable to what I’m doing makes work much more fun. Who says work and fun can’t go together?

  • New times: If something isn’t time sensitive, switch things up a bit. Get something done at a different time of day and see how it feels.

  • New fun: Doing something fun, joyful, or enjoyable just for me, even for 15 minutes has helped me stay focused and productive. My brain was free to be wild and now that I’ve exhausted that energy, something more structured doesn’t feel restrictive.

So I ask you, what’s one small change you can make to shift you out of your rut and into something great?
