Rest: It’s More Than Just Sleep

One of the most common forms of rest we’re familiar with is sleep. According to the CDC, you could fall into the approximately 1 in 4 Americans who get less than 7 hours of sleep per night. Chances are, you’re not getting enough rest.

You may be thinking “Okay cool stat, but why are you talking to me about rest?” My answer is this: Rest is more than just sleep.

Merriam Webster cites a few definitions of rest as the following:

  • To cease from action or motion: refrain from labor or exertion.

  • To be free from anxiety or disturbance.

Taking some of the definitions of rest into consideration, when what the last time you…:

  • settled yourself for a moment, without extra action or motion, perhaps for a breath or two?

  • cleared your mind from anxiety or disturbance?

I like to take micro-breaks, ~1-5 minutes in length, to break from what I’m doing to think about something completely different. Or nothing at all. To simply be. It helps me to stay focused long term throughout the day by giving my brain a free chance to wander.

Here are a few ways that we help our clients to rest:

  • Relieve clients of extra exertion by partnering in areas that need more attention.

  • Collaborate on requirements and engage in steady communication to help reduce deadline related anxiety.

  • Create and foster mutual respect by thoughtfully pairing clients and partners together based on fit in expertise, experience, and personality.

Our partners at Plume, Pen, & Pencil can’t directly fix your sleep schedule. We do, however, offer an experience that allows you to rest easy.
